Vertex Product Development is a product development company in Great Neck, New York. We provide turnkey product development for clients across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, and for remote teams when the program requires it.

One team takes hardware from concept through industrial design, engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing transfer. You are not stitching separate vendors together for each phase.

Phase What turnkey covers Typical deliverables
Industrial design Form, use, and appearance with manufacturing in view Concept & CAD form studies
Mechanical & electrical engineering Parts, assemblies, and systems that can be built and serviced Detailed design packages
Prototyping Functional units for evaluation, not appearance models only Testable prototypes
DFM & manufacturing transfer Geometry and materials that survive the factory; handoff to production or your CM Production documentation

Who this is for

  • Founders and OEM product leads who want one accountable team from napkin sketch to production prep
  • Companies that need industrial design, engineering, and prototyping under one roof
  • Buyers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania comparing regional product development firms, not national brand consultancies

Scoped phases are available when a full program is not required.

Product development for New York City companies

New York City companies hire Vertex Product Development for the whole path from idea to factory. We are a product development firm in Great Neck, NY, just past the Queens line. There is no Manhattan office. Industrial design, engineering, prototyping and manufacturing transfer all run from one studio and model shop there, as they have since 1998.

A turnkey program here has one point of contact for every phase. The designer who draws the concept stays on while engineers detail the parts. Our model shop then builds the prototype. At the end you get production drawings, a bill of materials and a data package for your manufacturer. We can also help you find one.

You can start small. Send a sketch, CAD file or photos and we scope phase one. NYC clients meet with us in person and review models at the Great Neck studio. Clients in the city include BuildingLink and Aware Products.

What turnkey includes

  • Industrial design: form, use, and appearance with manufacturing in view
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering: parts, assemblies, and systems that can be built and serviced
  • Prototyping: functional units for evaluation, not appearance models only
  • Firmware and controls support: when the product needs it
  • Design for manufacturing (DFM): geometry and materials that survive the factory
  • Manufacturing transfer: documentation and handoff for production or your contract manufacturer

Industries

Medical and laboratory equipment

We design medical and laboratory hardware to the compliance requirements you provide. Vertex does not run compliance testing or FDA submissions. Third parties handle that path. Details: Medical and laboratory equipment. See also laboratory equipment design.

Examples: Direct View Retractor, adjustable surgical speculum.

Semiconductor equipment

We design wafer tools and subsystems: handling, wet processing, and inspection-related mechanical work. For semiconductor tools, we design for the cleanroom class you name. We do not claim to operate a certified fab. Details: Semiconductor processing.

Examples: WaveEtch 456 G2, non-contact wafer chuck.

Industrial machinery and product hardware

Production equipment, enclosure families, and instrument products. Examples include the Halm EM press family and the Nexus 1500 electric meter.

Consumer hardware and interactive systems

Past work also includes consumer hardware and arcade or kiosk systems. Those programs follow the same design, engineering, prototype, and transfer path. See our arcade and kiosk design and fitness equipment design work.

WaveEtch 456 G2 →

Semiconductor wet processing tool. Design-for cleanroom compatibility when specified.

Non-contact semiconductor wafer chuck by Vertex PD

Non-contact wafer chuck →

Universal vacuum wafer chuck for inspection tooling (150-300mm).

Industrial / product

Halm EM Super-Jet envelope press by Vertex PD

Halm EM Super-Jet / press family →

Envelope press family covers and shared parts across models.

Nexus 1500 electric meter by Vertex PD

Nexus 1500 electric meter →

Industrial design and engineering for a power meter with touch screen and modular options.

What clients say:

  • Donald Lyon, President of Halm Industries: cover design for the EM series completed on time and to budget; competent designers who worked in a professional manner
  • Rudolph Technologies (wafer scanner group): contracted to design a universal vacuum wafer chuck for a wafer inspection tool; easy to work with
  • Frank Jacovino, Executive VP of Engineering, RVSI: outsourced critical mechanical design projects; detailed subject knowledge

Serving New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania

Vertex Product Development runs turnkey programs for companies and inventors in New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania from one studio in Great Neck, New York. It is the same team and the same process we use for Long Island and NYC clients.

A program starts when you send a sketch, CAD file or photos. We scope the first phase, the risks and what "done" means before any hours are billed. Our model shop builds functional prototypes so you can check fit, function and assembly before tooling.

When the design is ready, we deliver production drawings, a bill of materials and a full data package. We can work with your contract manufacturer, or help you find and vet one. You approve each phase before the next budget is spent.

We don't have offices in New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania. The work runs from Great Neck, with remote reviews in between. We visit your site in New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania when the project needs it. For medical and laboratory hardware, we design to the compliance requirements you give us. Testing and FDA submissions stay with you and your third parties.

Work for clients in these states

Process

  1. Intake: Sketch, CAD, or photos. Scope, risks, and what done means for this phase.
  2. Concept and industrial design: Form, use, and direction with manufacturing constraints visible early.
  3. Engineering: Detailed mechanical and electrical design. DFM built in.
  4. Functional prototype: Build what you can test and evaluate.
  5. Refine: Incorporate what the prototype taught. Tooling-aware changes.
  6. Manufacturing transfer: Package for production or your CM.

You approve before the next budget is spent. Full turnkey or a single phase.

FAQ

What is turnkey product development?

One team takes your product from concept through industrial design, engineering, prototyping and manufacturing transfer, so you don't have to coordinate separate vendors. We can run the whole program or a single phase.

Where are you based, and where do you work?

Our studio and model shop are in Great Neck, NY, where we have worked since 1998. We mainly serve companies in New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, and we take on clients elsewhere when the project fits. Reviews happen remotely, and we visit your site when the project needs it.

Can you do only one phase?

Yes. We can do industrial design only, engineering only, prototyping, or manufacturing transfer.

Do you do medical and semiconductor work?

Yes. See our medical device and semiconductor equipment pages. For medical work we design to the requirements you provide, and for semiconductor tools we design for the cleanroom class you name.

How does a project run?

You send a sketch, CAD file or photos, and we scope the first phase. We design, engineer and build a functional prototype in our model shop, then deliver production drawings, a bill of materials and a data package for your manufacturer. You approve each phase before the next one starts.

Can you hand my design off to a manufacturer?

Yes. We can work with your contract manufacturer. If you don't have one, we help find and vet vendors and review their quotes.

Who have you worked with?

Since 1998 we have worked with many companies, from inventors and startups to established manufacturers such as Fonar, Matech and BuildingLink. Clients in the region include Coastal Amusements in Lakewood, NJ, for whom we designed and prototyped the Break the Plate arcade game, Proton Energy Systems in Wallingford, CT, where we redesigned gas generator enclosures to cut cost, and De Nora Water Technologies in Colmar, PA, where we redesigned the enclosures for a line of floor-mounted gas feeders. See our portfolio for more projects.

How much does it cost?

There's no fixed price. Estimates are phased by complexity and billed hourly. Send what you have and we'll scope a first phase.
